Kelly O's boys 08/15/09
Kelly is a very talented seattle photographer, who’s new show titled, “boys” opens tonight at the Gossamer Collective 1406 18th ave at Union. I asked Kelly to send me a a few words about the show and she said “In the same way Terry Richardson loves women, I love men. Oooh, I love love LOVE ’em.” Apparently that means she loves barely legal men, and most of these photos will be on the of young dudes on toilets.
Anyways, It runs through september 17th but tonight from 7-10 there will be free booze, music, and hotdogs. be there…

Were back in the NW 08/14/09
Wow what a fucking awesome tour! It was riddled with problems but ALL the shows were epic and super fun! Long Beach kids are fucking nuts, Reno threw down fucking hard, Portland we played outdoors in a Gazeebo… Crazy.

Book of Black Earth tour 08/06/09
So we are off to a ripping start, our radiator blew up today and after we had a huge mechanic bill to fix it we got on our way. then we are pulled over by three state troopers and after not being able to proove we had insurance, they were going to tow us and impound our van and trailer. So, I get insurance, we make it to the show in Boise about ten minutes before we are supposed to play and everyone’s happy. I love touring.

Baroness needs help... 07/30/09
Hey dudes, so Baroness’ van broke down here in Seattle and they are trying to potentially sell it or park it somewhere until they can sell it/ fix it.
If you want to buy it: It needs about $1500 in head gasket work and they are asking for $1000 OBO. So for $2,500 or less you can have ’99 Dodge Ram V3500 with 130,000 miles on it. Pretty good deal!
OR
If you have a house/ garage/ parking spot that they can park it at safely until they can get enough money to have it fixed that would also be a solution!

GORGOROTH VS GODSEED 07/22/09
Let the confusion begin… Gorgoroth’s frontman Ghaal and bassist King ov hell kicked out their guitar player infernus (he says he kicked them out) about a year ago, then lost a legal battle over the bands name since Infernus was the only original founding member. So what does Ghaal and King do next? They start Godseed. And they also perform the same songs as Gorgoroth causing one of the most confusing metal moments since the Metallica had the four horsemen and Megadeth had the mechanix. I like how Godseed comes right before Gorgoroth alphabetically so when I’m thumbing through the racks to get the new Gorgoroth I stumble upon Godseed and buy that instead. As if that was an accident. Much like concept behind the naming of the band Accept to put them right before AC/DC.

I started the comp by thinking of some acts that should definitely be on there. Then I mulled it over for a week. I then sat down to structure it, and I had several darlings to kill and new ones to include. I am not making a ONE STYLE comp here, like ‘occult thrash’ or something. I chose numbers mostly from bands that are/were old and rough and soulfully sounding, but thrash is one of the most intense genres, so it sort of HAS TO be varied WHEN I MAKE 78+ minutes here! I was thinking of dropping three of the songs to make it more like a hit parade, but one needs some ups and downs in life, ha ha. Better to leave the mix untampered with. So it is sort of a whole labyrinth of songs, a world to get lost in. I also start with two tracks that have a really underground sound, so I will lose all posers that try to listen to the mix.

LAST THURSDAY WE WERE DENIED AT THE CANADIAN BORDER DUE TO OUR DRUMMER HAVING A WEAPONS CHARGE AGAINST HIM. THE HICK BORDER PATROL PIGS DETAINED US FOR OVER 5 HOURS AND FUCKED WITH US FOR A PIPE THEY FOUND IN OUR VAN THAT AN EX MEMBER OF OUR BAND LOST IN OUR VAN. IT WAS TOTAL AND UTTER BULLSHIT. ANYWAYS AFTER WE FINALLY GOT OUT OF THERE WE WENT TO BELLINGHAM HOME OF OUR GUITARIST TONY, AND GOT SMASHED. RANDOMLY THERE WAS A MJ THRILLER TRIBUTE WHERE OVER 500 PEOPLE SHUT DOWN THE MAIN INTERSECTION OF DOWNTOWN BHAM AND DID THE THRILLER DANCE IN IT’S ENTIRETY. WATCH FOR YOURS TRULY STEALING SOME ANNOYING HOBOS CYSCO IN AN ATTEMPT TO MAKE HIM GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE WAY. TOTALLY FUN, I WISH WE WERE IN CANADA RIGHT NOW THOUGH…

NEW MIXTAPE FROM FENRIZ 04/30/09
I JUST ABOUT SHIT MY PANTS WHEN I GOT THIS TAPE IN THE MAIL FROM FENRIZ OF DARKTHRONE.
”AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS” BY FENRIZ AKA D.J.V.K.O.M.
FROM FENRIZ HIMSELF:
“Every time I heard this “Total Eclipse” by Alan Parsons, I thought “I gotta use this in a mix, it’s got that perfect space Odyssey 2001 vibe, kinda like the long version of the intro to Celtic Frost’s “Into the Crypts of Rays”. It’s cold.
So I go from cold to beautiful but still lo fi sad/melancholic on the “Without Reason” track from Pegase. One of the best songs I heard last year. To tie it up to Christian Death, I needed a middle song, a bridge. and I found that in “Nowa Aleksandira” by Siekiera, like is it punk, is it new wave, is it goth…and the tempo works well with the previous Pegase track..and so comes the Romeo’s Distress, long time favourite of mine since I discovered it in the 80s, a DJ favourite of both me and Einar from INFERNÖ/BEYOND DAWN, VIRUS etc. The whole album is a scorcher.
Then since the tape should only be 30 minutes long, I needed a short link to something more metal, and after Christian Death I’d have to go with Septic Death or Rudimentary Peni, i thought. I got that rudi-track from a fellow music freak from Australia (hi Andrew) and that track is so instant. Before the behemoth of “Sight of the Wise” with Sacrilege. Everyone plays their 1st album, I usually go on about the 2nd one as the rifforama on it is priceless – it was hard to get into as a kid but that album is the gift that keeps on giving. I get totally lost in it. Then to just continue the WHAT IS IT style, i blast the first track of the Sindrome demo from 87/88, this was the vocalist of Chicago gods Devastation’s new band, and one of the most professional demos of the 80s. I’ve been playing it for 21 years straight!
So, as a weird break and link to both the eerie intro AND the organ on the before mentioned Sacrilege track, I shoot in one heavy psalm that a master DJ here in Oslo burnt me, totally obscure vinyl oldie… and it continues with the intro to the recently discovered “At the Mountains of Madness” by Blackfeather, thanks to Peter in Wolf 359 for showing me that shocker from 1971.

INSANITY! 04/25/09
tonight we play the Funhouse with one of my all time favorite bands INSANITY. I’ve talked about them before here, their logo is a huge inspiration on my drawings and actual pain as a whole. If you miss this show you really will be kicking yourself for it later. We played with them last night in portland and seriously, they are one of the greatest death metal bands I’ve ever seen. Napalm Death covered one of their songs. Can you imagine how rad that must feel?
